GLASGOW'S, OUTDOOR, SKI, CLUBS

This blog will follow what Glasgow has to offer in the way of learning how to ski or snowboard  outdoors in any weathers conditions.

Learning how to ski is fun and one of the few sports that  the whole family can do together. Glasgow ski slopes are open from 9am till 10pm most of the year allowing for lessons at most times of the day or night. Both clubs are flood-lite, meaning that lessons are often on till ten in the evening. Lessons can be obtained from two locations within Glasgow

Bearsden Ski Club which is in Beaarsden, just off the Stockiemuir Rd.

Glasgow Ski and Board also know as Bellahouston Ski Club, just off the Dumbreck Rd

Ski and Snowboard lessons can be obtained from both these ski clubs which come in the form of private or group for both adults and children. But be warned all you parents out there as the children will overtake you in a very short time as they have no fear.

Both clubs are only closed three times a year and this is when the clubs do their repairs and upgrade the ski slopes each year and then at the end of the year, usually only for two days each at Xmas and New Year.

The Ski Clubs;

Bearsden Ski Club
Which is pictured below and in real snow. Bearsden Ski Club has three slopes, a beginner slope which has a rope tow and is great for learning. The main slope which has a poma tow and many ski races are also held on this slope. Then there is the jump slope which also holds the tubing parties.

Ski lessons are available from the ages of 4 years old and boarding lessons from the age of 8 years. Tubing parties are enjoyed by members and non-members and are fantastic fun with many of those who hold them booking again and again.
The instructors are fantastic and will put any nervous skier at ease as they connect very well with children and adult ski/boarders alike, they are happy to explain and discuss the content of the lesson and what level has been achieved.
For those who are not taking part it is well worth giving the café a visit and try one of the many fantastic coffee's on offer. There is also a whole range of great food available such as wraps, burgers and homemade soups which taste great in those really cold winter days and it is so nice and cosy to watch lessons from the comfort of the clubhouse.
Julie and those who work in the café are very friendly, they are always willing to help making non-members feel very welcome.

Scott runs the bar where soft drinks can be purchased and he also makes a lovely cup of coffee when the café is closed.

Scott and his team are he hub of the clubhouse and again are so very friendly and welcoming. Many of the members us this to it's full advantage and is often busy.

Glasgow Ski and Board

Have four slopes which are the small tubing slope and the smaller slope which both have moving escalators, then there is the main slope which has a rope tow and then there is the jump slope and again this is also used for tubing.

Lessons are available for skiing and snowboarding, these run for beginners right up to advanced and then onto racing or freestyle. The instructors will put you at ease from the first moment you meet them and are always happy to talk about the lessons provided assistance any way that they can.

Birthday parties are very popular at the club and there is a choice from skiing, boarding, sledging and tubing. Tubing parties are by far the most popular and after the children's outdoors activity they can then go indoors and have a bite to eat and relax, where there is always a warm reception from Hugh and his staff in the bar. Non-members are always very welcome.

This is a fantastic sport with many people learning to ski enabling them to then go abroad for ski holidays to such places as Europe.Allowing them to see this fantastic view for themselves of the 3 Vallees in France.

This is just one of the fabulous pictures my son brought home to show us from his ski holiday.
