SKI RACING

THIS IS WHAT NOT TO DO WHEN RACING

Races are extremely popular at both Bearsden and Glasgow Ski and Board, members and competitors have the chance to race against each other, they look forward towards these challenges which gives them the chance to see who is the best.

BELLA SKI RACING

The clubs have trained many top class skiers through the years such as Douglas Crawford, Pam Thorburn and Ali Stang to name a few, but there is a new crop of what could be world class skiers coming through the ranks such as Zak and Owen Vinter, Rhona Price and Fraser Middleton . These racers not only compete against each other but also top challengers from  across Scotland, the rest of the UK as well as Europe. Competitors get the chance to race from when theystart training often from a very young age, then they progress up through the ranks.

Each ski club hold two championships races each year where skiers race against each other, there are many different age categories as well as teams and of course the family race. These race days are great fun and every member of the club has a chance to race from parents, siblings and instructors from most skiing and boarding ability's and let's not forget  those from the racing section. This competition is held over two different occasions thought the year

THE DRY SLOPE CHAMPS - Held at the end of each year in December

THE SNOW CHAMPS - Held any time from March to April, depending on the weather and snow conditions up north

Then there are the annual competitions where both clubs compete against each other as well as teams from other clubs and Universities, these are always held in the winter months.  Although the weather is often dreadful there is a big turn-out to compete as well as spectators. These races are fantastic to watch as each racer has total dedication, passion and the commitment to win, the speed they can get to is amazing and quite often so are the crashes.

Getting to this level, training is a must and these guys follow a very disciplined schedule they are often seen out practicing several times a week as well as their race training sessions. If interested you must first become a member of a ski club and be recommended by an instructor to try out for the training programme, the trainees also get the chance to go snow training up north weather permitting .

Adults members can also take part in race training once they have completed the advanced level and this might just be the most competitive group as these guys give it everything.
